The design transformed an inefficient decentralized layout for the separate into a single efficient layout that maximizes efficiencies of both space and staff. Estimated Construction Cost: $2,766,000; Construction Cost at Bid: $2,815,000. The construction phase is currently ongoing.

Suite Conversions

TRM completed interior and exterior rehabilitations for NFHA communities. This rehabilitation program included senior, single and family housing units. Design items included repair and replacement of exterior cedar siding, hot water valve upgrades, suite conversions, roof replacement work, as well as hot water tank, sprinkler head, and thermostat replacements. Many of the projects also included the logistical challenge of asbestos abatement in occupied facilities. The major design challenge was to examine current and projected needs of residents of the NFHA facilities, to determine what type of amenities to offer to remain competitive. This led to the conversion of a number of efficiency units to one bedroom units. From a constructability standpoint, the challenge was to coordinate the construction while minimizing the impact to residents and therefore minimize additional work for staff. Construction Cost: $ 1,899,687

Lobby Renovations

TRM completed renovations to two high rise facilities, Anthony Spallino and Henry E. Wrobel Towers. The towers consists of public housing for senior citizens and low income families with a total of nearly 450 units. Renovations included the first floor vestibule, mail room, offices, toilet rooms, and laundry facilities as well as the elevator lobbies on upper floors. The project resulted in modernized, brighter spaces that encourage residents to use and gather in common areas providing outlets for socializing for elderly residents and creates a welcoming entry to the housing facility. Considerations for the project included selecting finishes that can stand up to the everyday wear of use by a large number of residents as well as provide durability and low maintenance. Throughout the construction the building also had to maintain functionality including allowing access to the elevator and mail areas. Construction Cost: $391,000

Hydraulic Design of Fire Protection Systems

TRM completed a report and study of the Hydraulic Design of Fire Protection Systems through the entire campus, proposed a solution to address getting adequate water flow to the campus, and over saw construction of the project. The hydraulic designs for various buildings’ sprinkler systems on the campus were evaluated by etermining the most demanding flow and pressure needed for the sprinkler system and fire pump. Existing research data and essential information was also organized and collected to in order to identify the systems and areas for improvement. Adequate water supply was not being met by the current Buffalo municipal water supply, however, the campus is also adjacent to the Erie County system and a solution was carried out which draws water from both systems. The project alsoincluded the construction of new fire pumps and reservoir tanks. Estimated Cost: $489,500.
